Defender of the Mead Guild Rules

A work in progress

Basically, play nice and have fun is what we want out of our members. Beggers can look elsewhere, we help
those in the guild when we can, but its not a guild rule that it must be done. We are very understanding of
those with weird schedules for when they play, as we know that real life takes precedence over a game.

Latest additions/changes are in red.

Guild Invite Rules:

Okay, so you want to be in the Defenders of the Mead or you want to get someone new into the
guild. Now what?

1) New members must read these rules and agree with them before they can be invited
into the guild. We shouldn't hear the excuse of "Rules? You have rules?" from anyone.

2) If we are in an alliance, you must read the alliance rules before you can be invited.

3) New members will be invited by an officer, but they will only be allowed in after
reading these rules and as long as no other officers have a problem with the proposed
new recruit.

4) New members will start at rank 9. The exception to this is if the new member is known
by other guild members as a known good player/friend/brother/ect. In this case they can
start at rank 8 if the officers agree to allow it.

5) At the moment, we are only allowing those people into the guild that we know in
real life. This is so we do not encounter the problems that have plagued us in other
guilds. Right now we are not looking at changing this rule.

Guild Ranks:

I've added the same info to each rank that can be pulled up with a /gc info command. I've
listed the deposit/withdraw/view to show when you will have access to the guild or officer's
vaults, even though that is done through the house permissions now and won't show correctly
on a /gc info.

9 - Recruit. This is the starting rank for the majority of new members. It is a
probationary rank for while both you and we decide if the MotD is a good fit for you. It will
take up to 2 weeks for us to decide if you should be allowed to stay in the guild. The more we
get to see you in action (verbally and in group situations) will help us decide. And besides,
we understand that not everyone can play every day, so this gives us and you a good chance to
be seen by other MotD members and officers. Also, you can not be promoted out of this rank if you
have refused to read our rules and or alliance rules.

8 - Drinker of the Mead. Congratulations, you are now a full-fledged member of the guild. As such
you can now wear the guild colors and you can look (not touch) whats in the guild vault. If you
need something from it, a higher ranked player can get it for you. You also get access to the
alliance chat at this time. You will stay at this rank for one to two months normally.

7 - Squire of the Mead. You've been around a little while and the officers like you. This is the
rank that you will stay at for a while. Some players may never get any higher than this. An
extremely casual player or one who primarily plays on another server will most likely stay at
this rank. You now have full access to the guild vault. Don't abuse this new ability.

6 - Warrior of the Mead. You've been around even longer, and the officers like you and feel
that you are an asset to the guild. Also, we feel that you are one of the best non-officer
representitives of the guild. This rank also represents those who go out of their way to
always help guild members and others alike. This could be a permenant rank for those who don't
do heavy RvR. (Which we don't encorage or discourage in the guild, you play for your enjoyment,
if you don't like RvR that's your choice not ours.) No changes on what you can/can't do.

5 - Knight of the Mead. This is a rank for those who we feel are good players in RvR (either as
a group member or a group leader) and would like to give the ability to claim a keep in our name
if the opportunity arises. A member at this rank isn't expected to try to claim every unclaimed keep
during RvR, just to claim one if the officers agree that we can properly protect one with our current
guild bounty points. If you do not wish to be an officer, or we do not feel that you are officer
material, this is the highest rank you can attain.

4 - Server of the Mead. Officer-in-training and guild representives are at this rank. You are
someone the officers are seriously considering promoting up to full officer status or are considering to
be a representive of the guild when other officers aren't around (when something comes up in the alliance
or the guild that needs to be resolved). You now have access to officer chat and are expected to give
input on issues that the officers are discussing. If you make it to this rank, you may stay at it for a
long time (for officers in training) or permenantly (for representives). Look at the officer responsibilities
fo a better idea of what could be expected of you if we promote you and/if you are to be a representitive of
the guild. You do not have to be an officer or a representitive, and can turn down this rank at anytime. Also,
you now have the ability to look into the officer vault.

3 - Defender of the Mead. This is the rank for alternates of rank 2 (Makers of the Mead) officers.
If you see a Defender of the Mead, they are an officer who is on with one of their alts. If you have a question
for an officer, they will still help you while using an alt. This is also the lowest rank that can do guild
invites, promotions, and have the ability to upgrade or release a keep. Full access to the officer vault is
given at this rank.

In terms of setting policy and such, everyone rank 3 and up has a serious voice,
that is why we tend to be slow to make people full-fledged officers. We want to be
sure we can trust our officers with important decisions.

Promotion Rules:

1) You will spend up to two weeks as an Recruit (rank 9).

2) If we like what we see after that time, we will promote you to Drinker (rank 8). If for
some reason we missed you though a crack in the floorboards, remind us if you are still an
Recruit after two week's time.

3) After around two months with us, if we like what we see and the officers agree,
you will be promoted to Squire (rank 7). This is one of the ranks that will make up the bulk
of the guild. It isn't a bad thing if you stay here.

4) For those who represent the guild well, and help others in the guild and out of it
the officers can agree to raise you to Warrior (rank 6) or to Knight (rank 5). You've
most likely been in the guild close to six months to a year before attaining either rank. This
is another set of ranks that will make up the bulk of the guild. Again, not a bad thing to stay at
either of these ranks.

5) From Server (rank 4) and up, the promotions will be very slow. You must be officer
material or an outstanding representitive of the guild to make it to these ranks, if you don't
want to be an officer you don't have to. These are people who are serious about wanting to make
sure the guild is a better place to be, who want to help out other guild members on a regular basis
and who generally try to make the game a more enjoyable experience for everyone. Also, we put a lot
of trust in the officers, so we have to be sure that these are people we can trust with the responsibility
we give them. So what happens is that when we consider someone to be officer/representitive material,
the officers discuss it amongst themselves and eventually decide if they want to make someone a Server.
If they decide to do so, next time an officer sees that person on, they will be promoted to Server.
6) Now, once you are a Server, we watch you more closely. This is the evaluation period again,
things are currently somewhat informal, so sometimes it takes longer to decide if someone is
truly officer material or not. (often depending on how much the various officers see the person
in question) If, after a while (usually a week at least), the officers decide that Someone is
truly is officer material, and the person in question wants to be an officer, then the next time
either one of the Keepers or one of the Makers sees that character, they promote
them to Maker.

Code of Conduct:

This is still not a full Code of Conduct. Basically if it not here, use common sense.

1) We do not tolerate any language that might be construed as bigotry. This includes,
but is not limited to, terms that denigrate someone's race, gender, creed, religion or sexual
preference. Yes, that means that casual use of the term "Gay" or "Faggot" as substitutes for stupid,
lame or what have you are against the rules. I don't care if people around you say it "all the time"
that way or what… it is against guild policy. Just be considerate and avoid using *any* bigoted language.

Also please watch the language in guild chat overall, you do not have to have a 'potty mouth' to get a
point across. You also have no clue what the age is on other members. Set a good example for the young
ones. We won't get on you for saying a swear now and then, but if it becomes a problem you will be told.

Do not swear or use bigot remarks in the alliance chat, group chats (when not an entire DotM group),
broadcasts, open chat, battlechat, ect. In other words, set a good example for us to all the other players
out there.

As people can take offense to it, and since the guild may have younger members on at any given
time, heavily explicit/sexual comments will not be tolerated in guild chat. If you and another member feel
the need to talk like that, please make a private chat channel for it.

2) Treat each other as you want to be treated. In other words, remember, there is a real person on
the other end of the computer, and they are trying to have fun too. So, treat other guild members as well as you
can. In fact, just treat other players as well as you can, it's just common courtesy. Several of the
following rules expand on this.

3) Respect other people's spawns. Remeber that the person fighting the spawn owns it, and unless
they ask for help, don't attack it. Also, you can not own a camp according to Mythic, so if someone asks
to hunt the same area as you, be nice and let them. This also helps improve our reputation as a good guild.

4) If you are a crafter, do not charge a guild member more than cost for crafting work. If they
want to pay you more, that is their prerogative, but never ask for more than cost from a guild member.

5) Avoid over-use of alliance chat. There have been complaints from other guild
leaders in our previous alliance/guild experience that the alliance chat gets to "Spammy".
We do not want a repeat of that in our current alliance.

Sister Guild Creation and Rules

The Defenders of the Mead will take over all servers! Well we can try can't we? Here's a list of rules
for official Defenders of the Mead guilds on other servers.

1) If you just want to make a guild for the sake of making a guild, please do not use the
DotM name. We can't stop you, but it would be nice of you not to do it.

2) The name 'Defenders of the Mead' will be used for the guild whenever possible, unless the officers
agree on another name.

3) All rules that apply to the core guild will be used for our sister guilds.

4) Only officers will be considered as a possible guildmaster for the branch guild. In very
rare cases we may allow a lower rank member to be a GM on another server as an official DotM guild.
Officers who are not Keepers in the guild and are the guildmaster for the branch guild are still actually
the rank they are on Morgan Le Fey. They are an official representitive of the Keepers when one is
not present in the sister guild.

5) At first, only current guild members on MLF will be allowed into the sister guilds. Maybe
after we establish ourselves, and get to know some people we can trust, will we allow new members into
the sister guilds. The reason for this is that the officers can't be in two places at once to ensure
there are no problems or to correct problems that arise.

6) The same exact guild emblem and colors do not need to be used, but it would be nice if
they were for continuity.

7) Members from Morgan Le Fey will normally be the same rank in the sister guild as they
are on Morgan Le Fey. The officers may choose to raise/lower a specific guild member's rank in the
sister guild, but this will not be done without a specific reason.

Guild Member Houses

We have no rules on what you can or can't do with your personal house, but we do ask that members
please think about implementing the following suggestions.

1) Allow all members to have access to your house.

2) Allow all members to pay house rent.

3) Put at least one keg somewhere on your property. (You have to store the mead somewhere.)

Officer Rank Responsibilities

No change here, its here to show what we expect.

Keepers: The Keepers are the political officers of the guild. Their main
responsibilities are to deal with situations arising between the DotM and other guilds (such as
the alliance), evaluate guild members for rank promotions, and handle in-guild problems/issues.
Keepers are primarily charged with setting guild policy. Duties include those listed for Makers
and Servers.

Conservator: Conservator responsibilities are the same as they are for Keepers.

Makers: Makers are those officers whose main responsibility is assisting guild members
with in-game matters. This includes (but is not limited to), giving advice, helping people find
groups and level and crafting for guild members. Makers are also expected to be leaders in RvR
situations when they arise and to help the Keepers work on guild policy. You are also expected to handle
in guild problems/issues and alliance issues when a Keeper isn't available.

Defender: Defender responsibilities are the same as they are for Makers.

Server: Server is the Officer-in-training and Guild Representative rank. While you are a Server,
the Makers and Keepers will be watching you, evaluating what your strengths are and whether to keep you
at this rank or promote you to Maker. This can take some time, as we will be very selective on those who will
become and an officer. Staying at this rank as a Representitive makes the person a political officers of the
guild. Your main responsibilities are to deal with situations arising between the DotM and other guilds (such as
the alliance), evaluate guild members for rank promotions, and handle in-guild problems/issues when no officer
is available.

Things I do not expect officers to do:
If you feel like power leveling a guildie, that’s fine, commendable even… but you are not expected
to PL someone who is demanding it. Frankly, I personally feel that power leveling does a disservice
to the person being power-leveled in the long run, if it is not done in moderation. That said, if
you want to help someone level, that’s cool. Just don’t feel pressured to PL someone who is constantly
demanding that someone do it.

Similarly, you don’t have to give people free equipment or gold. As usual, if you want to do so,
feel free to do so, and in fact we do expect people in the guild to be fairly generous to each other,
the officers included, but there are, of course, limits. Use your judgement.

Lastly, I don’t expect people to drop everything to help out a guildie… if you are deep in DF in a
diamond group and things are hectic, you don’t have to help someone out with a rez or something… but
let them know that you’ve heard the request and that you can’t handle it right now. If you can
reasonably handle the request, of course do so.
