Obsidian Hand Guild Rules
Here are the rules for the Obsidian Hand on Morgan Le Fey.
Guild Ranks:
9 - Initiate. This is the rank you get when you join the guild.
It is a probationary rank for while both you and we decide if the OH is a
good fit for you. (and if you are a good fit for the guild)
8 - Acolyte. Congratulations, you are now a full-fledged member
of the guild!
7 - Adept. You've been around a little while and the officers like you.
6 - Enlightened. You've been around even longer, and the officers feel
like you are an asset to the guild.
5 - Illuminated. Is made up of the non officer RvR leaders, people who lead
RvR groups and raids regulary and are quite good at the job, but for one reason or
another are not yet officers. Looking for an RvR group, find one of these 'Lieutenants'
on the frontiers.
4 - Primus. Officer-in-training. You are someone the officers are seriously
considering promoting up to full officer status. You now have access to officer chat.
3 - Mirrorwalker. This is the rank for alternates of Officers. If you see
a Mirrorwalker, they are an officer who is on with one of their alts.
2 - Inner Circle. The first of the full-fledged Officer ranks.
1 - Wyrmtouched. The Upper Echelon of the guild.
0 - Archon. Guild master.
In terms of setting policy and such, everyone rank 2 and up has a serious voice,
that is why we tend to be slow to make people full-fledged officers. We want to be
sure we can trust our officers with important decisions.
Promotion Rules:
Currently, this is somewhat informal. We are working on a more formalized policy,
keep an eye out here for more info as we get it.
Basically, this is how things work:
When you first join, you are an initiate.
After a week or two, we promote you to acolyte… we want to be sure you want to
stay with the guild and that things are working out for both you and for the guild.
After that, we tend to promote people that:
a) have been around a while
b) try their best to help out other guild members and are generally an asset to the guild
c) the officers like you and enjoy seeing you log on.
These promotions can only take you up to rank 5, however. We take promoting people
to rank 4 much more seriously. We promote people to Primus whom we consider to be real
officer material. These are people who are serious about wanting to make sure the guild
is a better place to be, who want to help out other guild members on a regular basis and
who generally try to make the game a more enjoyable experience for everyone. Also, we put a
lot of trust in the officers, so we have to be sure that these are people we can trust with
the responsibility we give them. So what happens is that when we consider someone to be
officer material, the officers discuss it amongst themselves and eventually decide if they
want to make someone a Primus. If they decide to do so, next time an officer sees that person
on, they will be promoted to Primus.
Now, once you are a Primus, we watch you more closely. This is the evaluation period again,
things are currently somewhat informal, so sometimes it takes longer to decide if someone is
truly officer material or not. (often depending on how much the various officers see the person
in question) If, after a while (usually a week at least), the officers decide that Someone is
truly is officer material, and the person in question wants to be an officer, then the next time
either one of the Wyrmtouched or one of the Archons sees that character, they promote
them to Inner Circle.
One thing of note, you do not necessarily have to be rank 5 to become a Primus, we have in
the past, and will likely in future, promoted someone who was rank 8 to Primus because we
felt that they were truly someone we really wanted to evaluate as an officer.
Code of Conduct:
We have a formal code of conduct in the works at the moment, when it is finished,
it will be posted here. In the meantime, here are the basic rules.
1) We do not tolerate any language that might be construed as bigotry. This includes,
but is not limited to, terms that denigrate someone's race, gender, creed, religion or sexual
preference. Yes, that means that casual use of the term "Gay" or "Faggot" as substitutes for stupid,
lame or what have you are against the rules. I don't care if people around you say it "all the time"
that way or what… it is against guild policy. It is estimated that 10% of the population is homosexual,
so odds are that one in ten members of the guild are as well. Just be considerate and avoid using
*any* bigoted language.
2) Be Excellent to One Another. In other words, remember, there is a real person on the other
end of the computer, and they are trying to have fun too. So, treat other guild members as well as you
can. In fact, just treat other players as well as you can, it's just common courtesy. Several of the
following rules expand on this.
3) Respect other people's spawns.
4) If you are a crafter, do not charge a guild member more than cost for crafting work.
If they *want* to pay you more, that is their prerogative, but never ask for more than cost from
a guild member.
5) Avoid over-use of alliance chat. There have been several complaints from other guild
leaders in the alliance (not necessarily directed at us) that the alliance chat gets to "Spammy"
at times. Since the alliance is growing fairly rapidly, the easiest way to avoid too much
signal-to-noise problems on alliance chat is to keep it as clear of chat as possible. Chat over
guild chat… form a chat group if several of you want to talk, whichever… just don't spam /as.
I think that covers the basic rules. As I said, the officers are working up a formal list of guild
rules, so watch here in future for additions or changes.

Officer Rank Responsibilities
Inner Circle: Members of the Inner Circle are those officers whose main responsibility
is assisting guild members with in-game matters. This includes (but is not limited to),
giving advice, helping people find groups and level and crafting for guild members. Inner Circle
members are also expected to be leaders in RvR situations when they arise.
Wyrmtouched: The Wyrmtouched are the political officers of the guild. Their main
responsibilities are to deal with situations arising between the OH and other guilds (such as
the alliance), evaluate guild members for rank promotions, handle in-guild problems/issues and to
help the Archons work on guild policy.
Archon: The Archons are primarily charged with setting guild policy, but they are also
expected to combine the duties of the Inner Circle and the Wyrmtouched. No-one will be promoted
from Primus directly to Archon… they must spend some time as either Inner Circle or Wyrmtouched
first. Also, for the short-term at least, I think we are going to try and maintain a small number
of Archons, probably 5 for now. This may change in future, we will see.
Mirrorwalker: Mirrorwalkers are still the rank for Alts of the Inner Circle, Wyrmtouched
and Archons. As such, their responsibilities are the same as the main character’s. However, as not
everyone knows who’s alt is who’s, all officers should feel comfortable having people come to them
with anything that is an officer’s responsibility. You are not expected to handle something which
is not your bailiwick, and in some cases you should not do anything (such as if a problem with
another guild comes up that requires policy action, and you are Inner Circle). In this situation,
get the info down, feel free to give you opinion, but let the person who brought the situation to
your attention that you are passing on the info to one of the officers who can handle the situation.
Then let one of the other people know. If no-one is on who can handle it, post the info here on the
board. If it requires immediate attention, handle it as best you can, but be sure to let the rest
of the officers know what you have done and why.
Primus: Primus is the Officer-in-training rank. While you are a primus, the Wyrmtouched
and Archons (and the Inner Circle too, for that matter) will be watching you, evaluating what your
strengths are and whether to plug you into either the Inner Circle or one of the Wyrmtouched. This
can take some time, especially now when we have few of the officers who are really active. But I feel
that it *should* be a somewhat lengthy process. I, at the very least, expect a lot from the officers,
and I want to be sure that people are ready for that responsibility.
Things I do not expect officers to do:
If you feel like power leveling a guildie, that’s fine, commendable even… but you are not expected
to PL someone who is demanding it. Frankly, I personally feel that power leveling does a disservice
to the person being power-leveled in the long run, if it is not done in moderation. That said, if
you want to help someone level, that’s cool. Just don’t feel pressured to PL someone who is constantly
demanding that someone do it.
Similarly, you don’t have to give people free equipment or gold. As usual, if you want to do so,
feel free to do so, and in fact we do expect people in the guild to be fairly generous to each other,
the officers included, but there are, of course, limits. Use your judgement.
Lastly, I don’t expect people to drop everything to help out a guildie… if you are deep in DF in a
diamond group and things are hectic, you don’t have to help someone out with a rez or something… but
let them know that you’ve heard the request and that you can’t handle it right now. If you can
reasonably handle the request, of course do so.
Email the Webmaster if you have
any problems with the site.
